Somatic Therapy & Counselling

When Your Body Is Carrying More Than Words Can Explain

You may know that you’re safe, but your body still feels tense. You may understand your patterns, but still find yourself overwhelmed, shut down, restless, disconnected, or stuck in survival mode. For many neurodivergent people, including those with ADHD and autism, traditional talk therapy doesn’t always capture the full picture of what’s happening.

Your Body Is Part of the Story

Somatic therapy is a body-oriented approach to counselling that explores the connection between your physical sensations, emotions, thoughts, nervous system, relationships, and experiences.

Rather than simply talking through what happened, somatic therapy may involve slowing down and noticing what is happening in your body in the present moment.

You might explore where you feel tension, what happens in your body when you feel overwhelmed, how your breathing changes during stress, or what helps you feel more grounded and connected.

The goal isn't to force your body to relax or make uncomfortable sensations disappear. Instead, therapy can help you develop greater awareness, choice, and connection with yourself.

Somatic therapy may help you:

  • Develop greater awareness of your emotions and physical sensations

  • Recognize early signs of stress and overwhelm

  • Build strategies for nervous system regulation

  • Better understand your responses to difficult experiences

  • Feel more connected to your body and internal experiences

  • Work through patterns of fight, flight, freeze, shutdown, or avoidance

  • Develop a greater sense of safety and self-trust

  • Navigate sensory and emotional overwhelm

  • Build healthier ways of responding to stress

  • Feel more present and connected in your relationships and everyday life
